Happy Valley (news:alt.happy.valley) is a friendly, light hearted newsgroup inhabited by a range of people (and a significant number of animals) who regularly post chat, jokes, queries, poems etc. and occasionally participate in word games or competitions. Most simply enjoy being less than serious for a few minutes at a time. Others, however, are quite insane ;-)
We like to think of ourselves as "members" although alt.happy.valley is a public newsgroup and anyone is welcome to join in.
Current members come from many areas, mainly in the UK, although we have a few from the USA. We are home to a complete range of ages and occupational backgrounds.
History of Happy Valley
The group began life as the Happy Hour forum (a sort of virtual bar), on Lineone.net's bbs server. Access to this forum was restricted to Lineone members. Some time ago Lineone was taken over by Tiscali and the bbs servers were taken off-line in favour of web based forums. However, many Happy Hour members preferred posting using a newsreader rather than the web based method. So with that in mind a search of Usenet began for a suitable home for the exiled members of bbs.happyhour forum. The former members of Happy Hour found alt.happy.valley and immediately built a bar there and took up residence. We are always keen to hear from any of those members that got lost on the way or from new members who have just wandered into the valley. .
